About the event
We will meet on the paint deck from 10 am 1 pm getting the brightest light of the day.
WORKSHOP FORMAT: Participants will create their own unique piece of art on a canvas, using brushes and acrylic paints to take home by the end of the class. Supplies included. My intention is to help you unblock any fears around art making, help you feel free to use art for self-expression and have fun. Topics will be discussed as they arise such as color theory, composition, pattern and abstract vs. representational.
Part 1: Background: Students will explore an intuitive approach to acrylic painting while investigating different elements of brushwork, and surface quality within a painting. The way that paint is applied and expressed is an integral part of one’s visual language, inherently impacting how a work of art is seen, felt, and interpreted. Experiment with the processes that generate exciting, authentic and unique works of art tailored to developing your personal style. Each month students will be guided to explore and play with new techniques for skill and concept development.
-Brunch Break- Enjoy some seasonal freshly picked and prepared fruit from the land, such as coconuts, avocados, mangoes and star fruit. Other brunch items may be served such as our garden cassava and local eggs upon availability. Water and tea provided. Enjoy a walk on the land to photograph or collect flowers and leaves, that inspire you. See where you are drawn, visit a tree or plant that beckons you.
Part 2: Embellishment – In this part of the class we will discuss how to look at your abstract color background composition and then add more into it. New orientations and personal concepts will help you find that hidden inspiration to develop imagery or enhance your artwork abstractly. For an optional muse, investigate the botanicals you may have collected that reveal the deeper patterns within nature. Find the underlying structures, angles, rhythms and symmetries to paint into areas of your canvas.
Next Steps: Join in again each month to continue your explorations, play & discovery. Schedule a 1-1 Artist Mentoring with me to develop your own painting or studio art practice tailored to your individual interests. Sign up for the next Level 2 class, to learn advanced techniques such as mark making, compass geometrics, & mandalas.
