About the event
Sponsored by the HSCA Watercolor Workshop with Jeff, we invite you to join us for a night to delight your senses with vibrant acrylic colors, beautiful botanicals and delicious sweets. For adults, no experience needed, all art supplies included. Bring flowers!
Your guides, Daughter and Mother-in-Law team: Laura McClanahan, MFA, please visit CrystalMatrix.Art for bio and portfolio... and Sweets made with love by Kathy Weber.
•Acrylic paints are water-based, dry quickly and easy to layer. Participants will create their own unique piece of art on a canvas, using brushes, mark making tools and acrylic paints to take home by the end of the class. Your ideas and observations of the botanicals will be the basis for your experimentation with color, texture, composition, and form, and you’ll learn materials, tools, and techniques as you proceed.
•Bring botanical flowers and leaves for painting inspiration and to share. Any potted plants may be donated to the community center if you choose.
•Enjoy some cakes or other sweet desserts baked with love by Laura’s Mother-in-Law, Kathy Weber, founder of Taste of Puna, PMA.
WORKSHOP FORMAT:
Part 1: Background: You’ll be shown how to layer your paints and blend colors to create beautiful abstract patterns inspired by the color & sunlight qualities of our Hawaii paradise.
Intermission: Enjoy dessert artistry to reward your senses and to celebrate having taken the time explore paint and create together.
Part 2: Embellishment – In this part of the class we will work with your abstract color background composition and then add more into it. Discover the patterns that lay deeper within nature to find the underlying structures, angles, rhythms and symmetries to paint into areas of your canvas.
